New rule, kids
If you've never commented before, I'd like you to tell me how you got here, and introduce yourself. This is to make it absolutely crystal clear that popping up out of nowhere because your friendz lolz told you about this crazy bitch is not accepted as being a reason for being here. This is not a blog for people who are hostile or ignorant of feminism, nor is it the place for people to demand that I re-answer questions that have been asked ad nauseum before. If you think the way to introduce yourself is to say, "You crazy bitch, get over it," here's your official and only warning to the contrary.

I think I might be the first... I'm Sophia and I came here because you wrote Buffy fanifiction. I find your "non-fiction" blogging interesting and informative, but am often at a loss for word in comments.

Also, I like hearing about your cats.

I came here because you wrote something brilliant somewhere feminist (I forget where, argh) and you continue to be brilliant and make me think and rage and sometimes scroll by as I'm fickle. *chuckle*

*waves* I'm real, and I'm not going to blow up on you all irrational. I HOPE not anyway...

I think I've commented on here before, but if not I may as well now. I can't for the life of me remember how I found your LJ, but I like reading your stuff, I love the way you write, and (confession mode on) I adore hearing stories about your cats (confession mode off).

I do read your other, serious, blogging too even though - as someone else already said - I don't usually have anything of substance to add in comments.

Me, I'm here because I keep seeing pointers to your writing from people I read who have opinions I trust, and I've found them interesting, challenging and thought-provoking.

And I like that.

Err, I know I've commented before, but what the heck, can't hurt to say hi and tell you who I am.

Me? Twila, a happily-married grandmother of 5 (three genetic, two adopted), mother of 2, mother-in-law of 1, owner of 2 cats and guardian of a third. Copy-editor, sf fan, frustrated writer... Not exactly what you'd call feminist, perhaps, in many ways, but I was lucky enough in the finding-a-guy-to-live-with-and-marry sweepstakes to get a guy who talks conservative and acts like whatever-it-takes to get his family through it--so he stayed home with the kids for over 7 years when men didn't do that. I got to do the not-at-home working mother thing because I made more money. Even now, he does the cooking and most of the housework 'cause I hate it.

I've been reading you since you were in Iraq, mostly because I was fascinated by what you were experiencing and how you wrote about it. I sometimes agree with what you say, and sometimes don't, but I still read it and think about it. I do wish you'd put in more links to what you're using to base your discussions on, because often I haven't read the same media and have no idea what you are referring to (in the cases where you say, "look what's going on now and what this means").

I have commented before, although rarely and it's been awhile. I read you becasue what you say makes sense and I do learn, regardless of whether you mean or intend to teach. I agree with most of what you say but I have difficulty articulating it when I speak to other people; I've gotten better since reading you.

But also I'm here for the other stories and the pictures; the cats, the places you've been.

Hey,
A friend directed me to your blog (particularly your must read list) when I started *really* reading about feminisim and I liked it so much I kept on.

I've always been taught that women were equal and could do anything men could (even though sometimes their actions said otherwise). I of course went and got into a male dominated feild and was the only woman in my trade school classes. Now that I'm working, I'm one of the few women with technical experience and the people I deal with have various reactions to me, from the enraging "I want to talk to a MAN" to "oh.. uh.. *insert technical question here*" I feel it's really important to challenge these attitudes and it's always good to read what others have to say about it and what their experiences are.

I also like hearing about your cats.

I come here because you say and know about all the things that I feel. I just don't have the words or really the knowledge to back up my anger about feminist issues, and it feels so good (well, good is perhaps the wrong word, the things you write often make me feel like yelling til my lungs shrivel up and I start bleeding out of my mouth) to be able to read into my soul through your writing. I know this comes off as kind of really heavy and weird, but that's what it is. I think. When I'm being told to get over it, or get used to it, or to get a sense of humour already, or whatever, I think about your writing and it gives me more strength not to back down.
I hardly ever comment because I just feel like there is nothing much to add to what you say.
So thank you.

Hi :)

I came here from somewhere feminist (probably [info]feminist). Like [info]sophiabrooks, I find your entries very informative, insightful, and generally just downright awesome, but I don't really know what to reply. Still, I love reading your LJ.

As to me, my name is Journey, and I'm 17 going on 18. I live in West Texas, but I'm craaaazy liberal, and happy about it. So you're not going to find any rude comments from me.

I think I've commented before, but it wouldn't hurt to do so again, of that I'm sure.

I'm Aspen, and I've been reading since someone crosslinked a post about your experiences in Iraq. I stayed because it's rare to see someone so publically and unabashedly outspoken on the topic of feminism, and more of that is needed, even and still in this day and age.

I can't clearly remember when I started following your journal. Somebody else I knew linked to one of your feminism posts (in a complimentary way) and I read that, then read some of your other posts, and when you add the 'my cats are conspiring against me' and 'this movie needs more werewolves' posts, well, I was hooked.

Been reading ever since, admittedly I almost never comment, but this is in part out of the old 'better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then open your mouth and remove all doubt' thing.

I'm here because some of my friends on a forum said you were good to read, and then some of my other friends from lj read you too. So I figured they can't all be wrong.

And I like the kitty pics and stories.

And about me? I live in St Paul and spend way too much time in libraries and bookstores.

I was pointed towards your blog when you were still in Iraq; I still find you to be a refreshing feminist point of view. If I were to have any disagreements, I'd keep them to myself because I'm not here to argue. Reading your posts reminds me strongly of reading Ms. magazine back in the early days of feminism. Women were pretty angry back then, too -- and it's a sad thing that we still have to be angry today.

I also love the cat posts. I've been owned by many cats in my life -- and still am, in fact.
