Well.

Snowball's ashes were delivered yesterday.

At the top of the attic stairs, there's a u-shaped banister. Every time I
came up or went down the stairs, he'd jump on the banister, race to the
end, then bat at me. Sometimes he'd flop over and bat at me while dangling
precariously over the railing.
If I was coming up the stairs, Snowball would skitter away from me,
scratch at his favorite scratchie thingie, then flop over on his back so
I could rub his tummy. This was the only time he allowed that.

At some point he stopped doing that.

Denial. That's my coping mechanism.

Shadow comes to the top of the stairs and looks down at me, then rasps at
me after, apparently, a long day of cigars and booze. He likes
ball-tossing very much but we're still working that out.

I like to picture Snowball romping in the Summerlands free of pain and fear. The problem with loving animals is that their lives are so much shorter than ours *sigh*

I'm glad you have Shadow, Gin. I'm sorry that Snowball isn't there any more.

And getting unlimited tummy rubs. Shadow doesn't quite know what to make of them.

I'm so sorry. May you receive all the love and comfort you need.

Fired up LJ for the first time in months to see two people suffering the loss of loved ones.

So sorry for you & Snowball! You described him as a cat with such personality!

That's the problem with taking in a sick kitty. The vet at the Humane Society told me he'd live about four years. I didn't believe him. That was four years ago.

Well, he was lucky to have you, and he lived a happy life until the end. It's a great thing!

He was a hard kitty to lose. I should have let him go sooner.
