Oh, who's a big fluffy puppy cow?

I think he's cute. But I still am going to have some form of meat for breakfast.

I'm torn. I know how nice cows and even bulls can be, but damn....those are some big cows. I want more big cows. Big cows are really cool, because I'm weird like that.

Imagine a milk cow that size? Ice cream for days!

so that's what Brits call Holsteins

Blended breed? I'm not sure where Holsteins originated, but I believe the modern Holstein-Friesian (usually shortened to HF or just Friesian) is a composite of the Dutch Black & White and Holstein. Traditional British Friesians are a dual-purpose breed, blacker, dumpier, shorter, but were almost bred out by the time I started farming (by crossing to US lines).

Sheesh Gin, you should have known better than to allow me to start talking about cows...

He's edible all right - I think in UK and NZ as much as half of all beef cattle are at 25 - 50% dairy (that is: they're either dairy bulls, beef crossed over dairy cows or their mothers were beef crosses from a dairy herd). Not what I'd call a 'prime' meat, the HF, but unless you're able to source a specific breed, it's probably what's on most plates.

might have the same schooling as the folks who created the Barnyard cartoon? yaknow, the one where the guy cows all have udders and are milked?

i gathered he must be a steer when they referred to him as a bullock which i believe is the uk term for a steer.

loning would be a viable alternative to create a breeding animal but first they would need to run hormones to see if his size is just due to a nonreproducible endocrine imbalance.

He is just gorgeous.

My largest is about 5'5" or 5'6" I think - she's taller than me, but nothing like as pretty as that boy. And she's got the 'wings' too (prominent hip bones) - she just doesn't fatten the way most of the others do.
