Help Burma's/Myanmar's Monks help people
With a hundred thousand people believed dead or injured in Burma, the people have turned to the monasteries and monks for aid, shelter, and water. The monks are more than happy to help, but they need help to provide this. Can you help?

Done.

I think I may use whatever I can spare from the rebate for this, too.

Which means less for those pet rescue charities, dammit, but... ah ghods, how can one decide? *sigh*

Humans before animals, I think.

Yeah. That's my gut feeling, too, but it still hurts that there has to be a choice.

And meanwhile the - what is it now? 1% or 2% of US citizens with 80% of the money? don't do much to help unless they need the tax deduction. (OK, I'll except Bill Gates from that, he and his family have done good work with their money, but the "I've got mine, you can go starve to death" mindset is far more common.)

Grrrr. Everything I'm seeing/reading lately is pissing me off. This. Clinton's "hard-working, white Americans" comment. The "Kristallnacht" idiocy. And there's not a damned thing I can do to fix things, except donate a few dollars.

At least you're trying. It seems like the people who've been there really understand while everybody else is sort of patronizing. I mean, I read "Nickel and Dimed" and got pissed because it was clear Ehrenreit didn't expect the working poor to read her book about us, she just expected other members of her class to do so.

Yeah, except the percentage is worse; it's 4 or 5 percent with, like, ninety percent of the money.
