With tax refunds coming out, I thought I'd mention these kind people again:

rays of hope

Like a lot of little charities, they offer items on Ebay. I just got a receipt in the mail for a vet visit that I helped fund.

If you can't donate, you can click!

The charity is located in a small Kentucky town, and the husband is another veteran like me. Taking care of animals can be very healing, at least if they're not Jezebel in one of her moods. That cat is like Lindsay Lohan with more body hair.

Please click and help.

Go to petfinder.com and nominate us to win the $ 5,000 That would be a great help as well.

I'm trying to find something to write about, but frankly, it's all too damned depressing and there's too much of it. There's the news from Pandagon that a woman in a wheelchair was tazed to death, while a man having a grand mal epiletptic seizure was tazed. Also, from Pandagon, for the sixth year running, the LAPD found that not one accusation of racial profiling was justified. The newspapers are referring to the "Incest family" in Germany, while it seems the word 'rape' only gets mention in reference to natural disasters or unfair tax burdens or burdensome child support payments. A female soldier got a Silver Star for bravery in combat---then her commander removed her from the unit to put them in compliance with the 'no women in combat' rule, which I fear might be the start of a conservative strategy in dealing with women in the war. A dockworkers' strike on Mayday that closed all 29 ports on the West Coast received no coverage whatsoever in the mainstream news, thus keeping from people an example of people fighting powerful interests---and succeeding.

The only good news is that Eugene Beale, notorious coward, hypocrite, and Xtian, got convicted for tax evasion and is going to be put in the slammer. Read all about it at Shakesville, where the groupies of his son, Vox Day, have shown up to defend their hero.

No news from the VA, but I did manage to pay bills this week and have thus far kept my water on, my phone connected, and my internet up and running.

I just have to find a new zombie movie or something. I'm watching Diary of the Dead, the new Romero flick, and wondering why it didn't get released in the theatres? It's pretty good. What's the deal with that?

I was a little disappointed with D.o.t.D, the main characters seemed so bumbling and daft sometimes I was amazed they survived as long as they did.
Though I did like the Amish guy Samuel, Sam was hardcore. I want an animated icon of the dynamited zombie bits raining down around him while he's stoically holding up the little chalkboard w/ "My name is Samuel. Hello." :)

Well, I'm going to assume you've seen most of the classic Zombie films, including SHAUN OF THE DEAD and THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. You might want to see SLITHER (but not with the girls) and UNDEAD. Also THE SIGNAL, (it's technically not a Zombie flick. But definitely worth seeing if you like zombie horror) There's also CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS -- vintage Zombie cheese.

Oh, I loved Slither. What's not to love? I haven't heard of some of those, and C actually likes horror movies.

I like SLITHER too, (especially Michael Rooker, one of my favorite character actors) but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable watching it with a kid. The sexual metaphors are a little too graphic. UNDEAD is an Australian zombie flick that puts a very fresh, kind of funny spin on the whole zombie thing. THE SIGNAL is a fascinating three-part movie about a media signal that drives insane everybody who hears it. (It's very recent. I reviewed it last autumn.) And CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS -- well, it kind of has to be seen to be believed. An incredibly cheap, kind of pretentious zombie film. I saw it when I was in high school, but some of the images in it have stuck with me.

You know, I watched Undead and I had really high hopes and then they kind of dissipated.

I love Michael Rooker. Also, one of the performers of one of the better kisses in cinema, too, in some movie he did with Laura Dern. I've seen him in a number of things, and he's really really good.

Diary of the Dead did get a theatrical release, but it was an extremely limited one; for example, it only played at two theaters in the entire metro region of Chicago and all its suburbs. Two.

Needless to say, smaller cities didn't see it at all. But that's what DVD is for, right?

I though "surely she exaggerates", then googled this:
port strike "may day" seattle

Note the conspicuous LACK of big media outlets.

When will I learn you only exaggerate about someone named 'Gerard'?

Good question, huh? Not one single major news outlet covered it. I checked the evening news and the MacNeil/Leher report. A couple papers mentioned it and that was all.
